The basics of CBT:

People react more to what they think about a situation than the situation itself.

CBT focuses on the here and now- not your past.

CBT helps people solve their problems by examining how irrational thoughts lead to distress and problems.

Some examples of irrational thinking:

  • I always have to be perfect.
  • I should be happy all the time.
  • If I don’t get what I want, it is a total catastrophe.
  • I have NO control over my life.
  • My past makes me who I am.
  • If I’m not in a relationship, I’m a loser.
